In a match that saw more yellow cards than goals, the Lions men’s soccer team ended Sunday’s match against the Guelph Gryphons in a 2-2 draw.

The first half was tightly fought with neither team able to get to the other’s net until Evan Dick of the Gryphons capitalized on a pass from Alex Zis in the 18 minute. The first half ended 1-0 in favour of the Gryphons.

It wasn’t until the 80 minute mark that the Lions were able to get themselves on the scoreboard, with Dieu Merci Yuma scoring unassisted. Five minutes later, Omar Marzouk buried the ball in the back of the Gryphons’ net thanks to a solid pass from Soji Olatoye. This gave the Lions a brief 2-1 lead until Zis was able to add the Gryphons second goal of the game with 25 seconds left on the clock.

This tie puts the Lions at 5-0-2 for the regular season, one point behind the Gryphons for first in the OUA West.

The Lions play two road matches this week. They will take on the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday, October 2 and the Brock Badgers on Saturday, October 5. The Lions will be back in action at Alumni Field on Sunday, October 6 when they host the Waterloo Warriors at 8 p.m.
