Love & Sex for all!

Whether we admit it or not, love and sex are everywhere. If you walk down campus, you’ll find it in a couple holding hands, if you live at Winter’s college you’ll probably hear it at night, and if you go through life, you’ll probably experience it someday.

Love and sex are always two of the most popular topics for someone to write or talk about. So when it came time to prepare for Excalibur’s Love and Sex supplement—one of the biggest issues of the year—I wanted to take a fresh and fun approach. Something unique to York, that every single student will want to pick up and read.

At first, I thought the best way was to follow in the footsteps of a popular magazine like Cosmo, where stories like “top 10 sex moves” and “how to look good for Valentine’s Day” dominate the entire magazine. This whole issue probably would have had boobs and a penis on every page if I did that. But even as a girl, I don’t really care for those magazines or ever had the desire to pick one up. Not because every week it’s the same thing, but because it doesn’t really include everyone. You either have to be in a relationship to partake in a quiz or be one of the most promiscuous girls/guys out there to really enjoy the magazine.

So when I was picking out the stories for this year’s Love and Sex supplement, I wanted a clear message to be read throughout all these articles: it doesn’t matter what your orientation, gender, size, or ethnicity is; you’ll still want to read these articles.

That message runs through this issue. We have an article about mixed couples taking over the world, and another that serves as a guide to hone your dating skills. At the bottom of this page, you’ll find an article arguing that being single is not about becoming the next cat lady.

Hopefully along the way you’ll learn something not only about others, but about yourself. And forget about those stereotypes that plague today’s media; that only perky blondes or guys with abs can fall in love or have sex.

Either way, if you hate it or love it, you’ll get a kick out of seeing York’s relationship blunders and statistics. It’ll blow your mind. (There is a guy who is allegedly attracted to cars, for instance)

Happy Valentine’s Day, and happy reading.
