Increased traffic congestion expected along route

Over the next two months, the York Boulevard bus-only access road will be closed and TTC and GO Transit buses that would take that route will be diverted.

Beginning early June 12 the bus-only access road will close west of James Gillies Street, allowing for the construction of a temporary road bridge, called a Bailey bridge, to stretch over the future excavation of the York University Station site.

“York U Station sits in the middle of the commons and cuts across traffic lanes,” says Ted Zander, Toronto York Spadina Subway Extension (TYSSE) construction manager. “To maintain vehicular access the excavation for the station has to be temporarily bridged.”

The road is scheduled to reopen for access July 30th at 5 p.m.

Buses that normally enter York’s Keele campus on York Boulevard will be diverted south on James Gillies Street, west on The Pond Road and north on Ian Macdonald Boulevard to Harry W. Arthurs Common.

Buses leaving the campus from The Harry W. Arthurs Common will be diverted south on Ian Macdonald Boulevard, east on The Pond Road, north on James Gilles Street and east on York Boulevard to Keele Street.

A press release on the TYSSE’s website says increased traffic congestion is expected along the alternate routes.
