1 Nature Valley Bars
According to the Globe and Mail, nutrition experts exposed the popular snack as an unhealthy choice for anyone. The 46 gram peanut butter Nature Valley bar contained 230 calories, 11 grams of fat, and 11 grams of sugar, about the same as a 45 gram Kit Kat chocolate bar. Though the granola bar is made up of healthy ingredients such as rolled oats, nuts and spices, the problem comes into play when chocolate, sugar and artificial flavour is added.
2 Energy Drinks
Whether it’s Red Bull or Rockstar, the energy drinks students think are healthy are in fact filled with high levels of sugar and caffeine. In a 250 millilitre can of Red Bull you’ll find 27 grams of sugar and 76 milligrams of caffeine. The energy drink contains more caffeine than a 355 millilitre Coca-Cola Classic or a Pepsi. In addition, energy drinks contain ingredients such as guarana and taurine, which, if consumed often, can cause insomnia and anxiety.
3 Cereal
The popular cereal brand is thought to be healthy, but it contains a variety of unhealthy ingredients. The cereal contains plenty of sweeteners, artificial additives and partially hydrogenated fats. The result can be feeling hungry not too long after eating it, and more weight gain later in the week. Mueslix may use whole grains, but the way the cereal is ground may trick the body into thinking all of it is sugar, and some sources say it does little for your health.
