After proving a powerful force in the 2010 season and advancing to the playoffs for the first time in three seasons, the York women’s rugby team is ready to kick off the upcoming season this fall with new additions to the team.
Alexis Boltsis hails from the Philip Pocock High School program and was captain of the Pirates last season. She was one of the strongest players on the team while playing at fly-half and was also a member of the Ontario under-17 team in 2010.
Seana Cartmell was selected to be a part of the Canadian under-17 team in 2008. The team played a series of international games in the United Kingdom. Cartmell graduated from a competitive program out of Lakeshore Collegiate Institute in Toronto where she won multiple medals at the OFSAA championships.
Emily Lex of Brother Andre Catholic High School in Markham, Ontario, while being a captain this year, has led her team to a division title at the second annual Lions Den Tournament.
Sarah Campbell is a scrum-half from Tim Costello’s Bishop MacDonnell Catholic High School program in Guelph, Ontario.
Morgan Houde-Pearce is a force to be reckoned with. She channels her energy beyond most high school athletes and is a prominent player on Trenton High School team which has won the last four OFSAA gold medals. With great speed and skill, she has the ability to hurt opposition teams on both offense and defense.
Chelsea Beatty from Chinguacousy Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario, offers quite a bit of versatility with her playing styles. She can be a flanker or lock and can also play scrum-half or fly-half. Beatty played scrum-half for Brian Kelly’s Ontario under-18 club, Brampton Beavers, and was also a leader on the TRU girls team that won gold at the Ontario Summer Games.
