Yeah, I dared to double down

From students to professors, the topic of KFC’s new artery-blocking sandwich, the Double Down, has many talking. It’s likely one of the most talked about meals from a fast-food restaurant.
As a journalism student, I had to try out this newsworthy dish myself. I wandered into the Student Centre’s food court along with two of my daring classmates and headed straight for the KFC counter to order a Double Down.
In my opinion, at a cost of $4.99, the sandwich is overpriced for the portion. The burger is the size of my palm and held together by two pieces of grease-soaked poultry. Between the chicken “buns” lies a thick coat of a mayonnaise-like sauce, dry bacon and a chunk of cheese.
As I chewed my way through the sandwich, my appetite disappeared; this was followed by slight nausea. One of my friends was forced to stop eating because of immediate sharp pains in her stomach. The other finished without experiencing much pain, but felt ill later on.
By the time I finished half of the sandwich, I’d given up.
I have eaten plenty of junk food in my life, but this felt like I was eating grease; I suffered from a brick in my stomach.
Though I did feel full for the rest of the day, I will not be making it part of my meal plan any time soon.
