Blazers VS. blizzards

During the warm spell we had last week, I was able to shed my oafish winter coat. With excitement, I opened up the other side of my closet, the side with colour and life, the side that doesn’t usually come out in winter.
I happily sifted through my prized collection of blazers. Year-round, they are my professional, academic, and casual uniform of preference. But when it gets cold, many of us forget to dress ourselves up. For the sake of functionality, we opt to bundle ourselves under puffy, unflattering winter coats.
Well, I, for one, am taking a stand against winter. Let it be heard that should it drop again below zero, I will not give up my blazer, and I will not be deterred from looking as dashing as I do in spring, summer, and fall.
I suggest those who want to carry themselves with elegance do the same. Blazers are often not given enough credit for how much they can expand your wardrobe. A shirt and tie, a blouse and skirt, a v-neck and jeans, patterns, prints, and every fabric, all underneath a two-button blazer with strong, snugly fitted shoulders and a smooth lapelle.
In this uniform, you will feel powerful. When you walk into a room, all eyes are on you because you are the sharpest, fiercest person there, and you deserve their admiration.

I’m salivating.

It’s ridiculous that just because it gets colder, we think it’s impractical to put in the effort to dress well. We forget how good it feels to look good.
Next time my phone tells me it’s windy and frigid, I’ll dig out long johns, thermals, a sweater, a scarf, a touque, and two pairs of socks. I’ll reach into my closet for one of my blazers, throw it on, and it will wrap my shoulders and hug my waist as I stride out of my house feeling like royalty.
