World MasterCard Fashion Week hit Toronto this October, bringing out Toronto’s most fashionable personalities for a preview of the spring/summer 2014 designer clothes. I was fortunate enough to be invited to a few of the shows and was excited to see what Canadian designers had to offer for the upcoming seasons.
Outside the white tents at David Pecaut Square, street style photographers line the way snapping pictures of Toronto’s fashionistas and fashionistos.
Every season I attend fashion week, the weather is always terrible. Rain, wind, maybe even snow, you name it. This is a true test of one’s ability to adapt their sense of style to the conditions.

In that case, I try to avoid the stop-and-pose outside the tents, and take my seat as quick as possible — I’m probably also running late because life isn’t fair. The air kissing stops, the lights go down, cue Lorde’s new single, and send out the models.

Hilary MacMillan’s show was all about the dress, with models walking the runway in vibrant purples and pale blues, white floor-length dresses and skirts, and metallic prints. It was a beautiful collection from the Toronto-based designer.
Conversely, Lacerda showcased a very different collection for spring/summer 2014. Everything is white, with the exception of a few pieces that displayed a pop of dark blue and orange.
The collection consisted of skirts, zip-up and asymmetrical shirts, and unique patterns. The clothes looked very loose and comfortable. I could see Miley Cyrus wearing this entire collection.
It’s hard to watch people strutting around in spring and summer clothes when you know it is months away before we can even start thinking about wearing such designs and trends. We will have to get through the winter first. Let’s enjoy fall fashion now, while we can.
