So you’re sick of what’s on the radio? Or perhaps your roommate has been pounding out the latest Cannibal Corpse record while downing energy drinks and hotdogs.

Well, maybe it’s about time you slow things down with I, The Mountain’s debut release Land & Sea. This trio straight out of the mean streets of Peterborough brings a unique blend of folk and alternative rock that just might tickle your music taste buds in all the right ways.

If you’re into the likes of Mumford and Sons, or even The Lumineers, you’d be a complete fool not to check this record out. All three members are students at Trent University and combine a gentle mixture of atmospheric guitars, powerful bass with harmonicas and ukuleles.

These boys proved themselves in small pubs and music halls across Peterborough before recording their debut record at The Sound Distillery Studio in Kitchener. Since then they have inked a new record deal with American label Mint 400 Records.

Their single Land is a slow yet powerful tune that builds towards a surprisingly full and memorable effort with Matthew Lamers’ voice leading the charge. “You lost your faith when you lost your way” stands out as a powerful line within the song before leading into a beautiful sing-a-long conclusion. Truly powerful, yet still holding onto the dream-like calmness the rest of the album holds onto.

Land & Sea is a wonderful start for a young band, and another gem hidden within the expansive music scene in Ontario.
