Former York volunteer football coach Daniel Younis now faces eight additional charges in a child-luring investigation.
Police say Younis allegedly engaged three boys, aged 16 to 17, through internet chats and text messages between January 2011 and February 2013. Toronto Police also announced that Younis sexually assaulted two victims at York, while he was the Recruiting Coordinator and Running Back coach of the York Lions football team.
He reportedly met a third victim during an all-star football game in Texas.
Additionally, two of the victims sent Younis pictures of themselves using their cell phones. His charges include three counts of luring a child, two counts of attempting to make child pornography, and three counts of sexual exploitation.
Younis was first arrested on February 21.
Joanne Rider of York media says the university was deeply disturbed when they heard the news of the additional charges, and that the university is continuing to work with police in their investigation.
Younis, who was charged previously for luring a child and attempting to make child pornography, was arrested on additional charges the same day he was scheduled to appear in court.
According to Rider, Younis was hired in 2010 and worked as volunteer with the university until 2012.
“There are recruiting procedures in place when the university hires volunteers like checking their references, and other practices to ensure that we are doing due diligence in hiring.”
Police believe there may be more victims. Anyone with information concerning Younis is asked to contact police at 416-808-8500.
