Re: Post-secondary students’ mental health: a waning sense of support during a pandemic
Op-Ed » October 17, 2020

Indeed we have “long focused on the stigma that surrounds mental health,” to the neglect of focusing on those taught and teaching it. We have allowed them free rein, and they have taken full advantage of it. We did the same with rape stigma for far too long. We are repeating the experience. One cannot base that entirely in naivete. Clever and persistent marketing is also involved.

For whatever reasons we have largely arrived at the conclusion that we must repeat those taught and teaching that prejudice, the truth is we can rebel against that lesson.
